Build It in Godot
A Beginner's Guide to 2D Game Development, from Blank Scene to Playable Build
$12.99
Most first games are never finished. Not because the engine was too hard, but because the project was too big before anything was playable.
This guide takes the opposite approach. You will build one deliberately small 2D game from an empty project to an exported, playable build, and you will finish it.
Godot is free, open source, and small enough to understand. There is no licence, no revenue share, and no account to create. This book covers the parts you actually need: nodes and scenes, moving a character with input, collision that behaves, sprite animation, and signals that keep the project from turning into knots as it grows. You will learn just enough GDScript to be dangerous and no more.
Later chapters cover the things that separate a demo from a game: score and lives, a title screen, restarting cleanly, sound, tilemap levels, and the small touches that make a game feel finished. The last chapter exports it for desktop and web and puts it somewhere people can play it.
No prior game development experience is assumed. If you can follow instructions and want to finish something, start on page one.
