Model It in Onshape
A Beginner's Guide to CAD in Your Browser, from First Sketch to a Part You Can Print
$12.99
You have a printer, or access to one, and an idea for a part. What you need is a way to turn that idea into a file the printer can use, without installing anything and without learning a professional CAD package first.
Onshape runs in your web browser. This book takes you from a blank document to a printable part: a small storage box with a lid, designed so that changing one number resizes the whole thing.
You learn to sketch with dimensions and constraints, turn sketches into solids with Extrude, shape them with Shell, Fillet and the Hole tool, and drive the design with variables. You add a second part, check the fit with a section view and an assembly, save versions before you experiment, and export STL or 3MF files in the units your slicer expects.
You also learn what the Free plan means for your work. Onshape describes Free-plan documents as accessible to the public, so the book shows you what that means before you create anything.
Inside:
- Setting millimeters as your default before your first document
- Sketches that turn from blue to black, and what red means
- Extrude, Shell, Fillet, Chamfer, Hole and patterns
- Variables that resize a design in one edit, and what configurations are for
- Assemblies, mates and fit checks
- Versions, branches and sharing on purpose
- Exporting STL and 3MF, and a simple drawing as a PDF
- Fixing a feature that fails
Plain language, exact names from Onshape's own documentation, and nothing padded.
